'Cause I'm sure you all wanted to play guessing games with the music I've been listening to.  :)  But [info]stillsostrange suggested it, and well, I'm chronically short on posts so:

The lyrics meme:

I give you a few lines from the top players on my iPod; you guess them and win... glory, I guess?  Or I can tell you why I like that song or if it belongs to a character.  I played fair--pulled out all the really weird stuff (ie., filk), and foreign language music (because I don't want to figure out accents and special characters with my sooper-speshul lj lack o'skills) so y'all play fair, and don't lyrics search?

1) Teacher says that I've been naughty
I must learn to concentrate

2) We don't cry for the gods that die by our hands.
We throw stones if our gods take a stand

3) Once when I was all alone I could not find the telephone
So instead I burned your pretty home to the ground

Johnny Hollow - Worse Things ([info]teacup_carousel)

4) This is my life my own right or wrong
Bring it on back to be.

5) It's all fire and brimstone, baby, so let's go outside.
It's all fire and brimstone, baby, I got my brand new pistol, baby

Puscifer - The Mission ([info]stillsostrange)

6) If you come back around I may not let you in
Cause I don't understand what this pretty is.

7) If I lose myself to rhythm
Doesn't mean I lose control

8) Our love story reads like a book of lies
good intentions, better alibis

9) Cause everybody's trying to get into heaven
but nobody's dead so far.

10) Blame me for the rocks and baby bones
and broken lock on our garden

Iron & Wine - Evening on the Ground ([info]stillsostrange)

11) blind, oh, now I see
Truth, lies, and in between

12) take an eye for one eye, a tooth for one tooth
just like they say in the bible

Tom Waits - Black Wings ([info]stillsostrange)

13) Fire & brimstone, dirt & a headstone
bury them baby, all of our sins

14) I'm nobody's wife and I'm nobody's baby
I like it that way but then again maybe

15) The soles of my shoes are shot full of holes
and it's all downhill with a bullet

16) If everything is just the way it should be
why am I still hungry?

17) Don't cry, there's always a way
here in November, in this house of leaves we'll pray

Poe - Haunted ([info]teacup_carousel)

18) the arrow goes straight through my heart
without you everything just falls apart.

NIN - The Perfect Drug ([info]stillsostrange)

19) Another day in this carnival of souls
another night's sands end as quickly as it goes

20) aftermath in an amber glow
A vodka bath for this shipwrecked soul

3. Johnny Hollow's Worse things.

17. Poe's Haunted.

20. The Creatures's Second Floor.

For number one . . . I wanna say either TV Rock or Soho Dolls. Guh, leaning toward the former.

eek! Edited for boobing up and typing the same title twice.

Yup! Johnny Hollow I learned about via Gemma Files. I just adore them. They're perfect morning music for me--energetic enough to get me moving, not so perky as to make me throw things feebly at the radio. Worse Things--I have this sick sick sick desire to see someone on Dancing With The Stars waltz to it.

Poe: I loved this whole album. Loved the book (with many caveats). But I also loved the collaboration between siblings. How awesome is that? For me, this song is attached to a character: a girl waiting at the heart of a doubled maze with a puzzle box in one hand, and a knife in the other. Waiting for the man who left her for dead to try to finish the job. She's intending to win, this time.

2nd Floor: I had a roommate who was all about Siouxsie while I was all about the hair bands. Later, when I was curious, Siouxsie'd moved on to the Creatures. I listened, I liked. Another great get up and move song for me.

Title for #1?

Oh Puscifer. I love them. Love Milla. Love the Resident Evil movies (even though I loathe zombies). This song was destined to be one I loved, and it's the personal theme song for one of the characters in Sylvie Shadows' world: Marah Stone, the ISI assassin. Someday I'll write a story just for her. And I'll listen to this while doing so.

Evening on the Ground: I have no real idea why I have this song. I'm not a fan of their other songs, and can't remember exactly where it came from. I assume, given its subtitle, Lilith's song, that I found it when I was looking up Lilith research for the first Sylvie book. I do love this one though. All that muted intensity and drive. It ends up on almost all of my playlists.

Tom Waits! Awesome artist. Discovered him late, when my brother handed me Bone Machine. Another one who makes it to most of my playlists: such a moody singer. And great lyricist!

NIN: Perfect Drug: oh Trent. How I listen to you over and over. Even my mother--80% classical music only!--likes NIN. This song, along with We're in this Together, was in heavy rotation while I wrote Maledicte. Unhealthy love? Absolutely.

I had to cheat and look up 19, because I couldn't remember what it was called, but I hear it on the rock radio station around here all the time and always like it! I won't say what it is since I didn't actually get it ;)

This is a cool idea. Writer blogs are something of a music-inspiration mine for me. I love to see what other people listen to.

I won't tell if you don't!

I do love hearing what other people are listening to. It's how I get most of my new stuff, since the local radio stations are kind of... not good.

#19 is definitely linked to a character for me: a psychic in a romance novel I wrote. He just wants to lead a normal life and every time he thinks he's getting there, he has a setback. I heard it on Criminal Minds and had to hunt it down.
